Eye Docs Optical - Your Eye Care Specialist

Dr. Kate Claffie moved from Rochester, New York to Florida in 1987 to attend the University of South Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. As an undergraduate student at the University of South Florida, Dr. Claffie worked at the Central Florida Lions Eye Bank as a tissue harvester for corneal transplants. She also had the tremendous opportunity to work as a pharmacy technician and as an ophthalmic technician for Don Perez, M.D., (a retinal specialist) while attending USF. After completing her undergraduate work, Dr. Claffie matriculated to Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale. She was awarded her doctorate and Dr. Claffie began her career in Boca Raton. She managed all aspects of a multi-location practice, including medical management for an ophthalmic surgeon. Dr. Claffie then moved to Tampa and has practiced in the bay area for over ten years.  She teamed with her brother, Dr. Sean Claffie, to realize a goal of operating private practices that focus on patients’ health and well being rather than maximizing profits.   The pair has since developed digital acuity software for use in ophthalmic and optometric practices  and they have sold their product to practices all over the country.  When not working, Dr. Claffie enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and cooking.

Valerie was born and raised in the Palm Harbor and loves the bay area. Currently working on her Opticianry Apprenticeship through our office, Valerie is also our resident insurance specialist. She can provide answers to all your insurance related questions. In addition to her insurance expertise, Valerie is extremely organized and an integral part of what makes Eye Docs Optical so efficient at providing you the highest quality eye care. When not at Eye Docs Optical, Valerie enjoys being active with her children, cooking and playing the piano.
